Thank you for agreeing to help with testing! The goal of the manual testing process is to ensure that all user-facing components of the registration system work on a variety of devices (both laptop and mobile). Primarily, we are looking for UI bugs and problems/potential improvements related to the User Application, since these are the two areas that were modified the most. Of course, other bugs reports/improvements are also very welcome. There is no need to test the Admin page, since that will be moving to Sudo.
Please put your findings alongside the devices used for testing into this doc:
TH 24 registration + dashboard testing
Testing steps
These steps are only meant to direct your testing. You should try to explore the system and test other scenarios and edge cases as well
Signing up
- Go to https://register.tartanhacks.com/ and sign up for an account
- You should get an email with a button to verify the account
- On the home page, clicking “resend verification email” should resend the email
- Clicking the button in the email should verify you (this should be reflected on the home page)
- On the verification page, changing the token in the url should lead to a page saying that the token is invalid
Login page
- Hamburger menu -> logout. Verify that you can sign in with your username and password
- Forgot password -> follow the instructions. Verify that the password is reset
Application
- Once verified, go to home page to complete your application. When completing it, verify that invalid values are not accepted and that the UX in general makes sense. Some fields appear only if other fields have certain values (e.g. “Other” for gender and ethnicity, “CMU” for school)
- Once submitted, verify that you can go back and edit the application. All fields you filled in should be populated automatically.
- If you have any suggestions regarding the fields that should/should not be included in the application, please share them in the Improvements section
Admitted users
- To be admitted, please DM Alex Obolenskiy on Slack (it might take me some time to respond). Once you are admitted, verify that you can access the waiver and the code of conduct after clicking “Confirm” on the home page. Check the boxes and confirm your participation
